Welcome
Welcome New Elected and Appointed Officials!
Introduction to the Kane County Planning Cooperative

With the 2013 spring elections in the books, the Kane County Planning Cooperative would like to congratulate our elected and appointed officials! We would also like to take this opportunity to familiarize our new officials with our mission. The County's pursuit of having the healthiest residents in Illinois is laid out in the County's 2040 Plan, which was adopted last year. This collaborative plan was created under the Quality of Kane Initiative and provides vision and direction for the Kane County Board and the County's 30 municipalities. In 2010, Kane County became the first county in Illinois to formally integrate health, land use and transportation. The 2040 Plan has the overarching theme of Healthy People, Healthy Living, Healthy Communities and aims to maximize quality of life for our residents.

The Kane County Planning Cooperative was created as the central core of The 2040 Plan's implementation strategies. The Cooperative is staffed by County planners from the Health, Transportation and Land Use Departments with strong support from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and many other local and regional agencies. The Kane County Planning Cooperative's primary goal is to assist the County's municipal and other partners to realize the vision of the 2040 Plan. This is done through local forums for education, analysis, communication and problem solving as we plan for current issues and emerging trends that will shape our County's bright future. Participation is open to municipal staff, elected and appointed officials and other decision-makers. We welcome your participation and input!

Green Infrastructure Plan Development
Join Us at the New Creek Bend Nature Center - June 7th 9:00 am to Noon

As part of the Kane County Planning Cooperative you are invited to participate in the development of the Kane County Green Infrastructure Plan. Because of Kane County's predisposition to ecologically sensitive land-use planning, including a strong interest in green infrastructure, the County was specifically chosen by Chicago Wilderness (CW) to receive technical assistance for the development of the Kane County Green Infrastructure Plan from CW's Sustainable Watershed Action Team (SWAT) program funded through a grant from Boeing.

Green infrastructure is defined as the interconnected network of natural areas and open spaces that:
  • Conserves natural ecosystem functions
  • Sustains clean air and water
  • Provides trails and other benefits to people and wildlife

You are invited to review the Draft Green Infrastructure Map on Friday, June 7th from 9:00 am to noon at the brand new Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles Map. The Draft Green Infrastructure Map is a product of the Natural Resources Advisory Committee who was tasked with reviewing the Existing Resource Inventory Map of the County and recommending additional green infrastructure priorities and approaches.

The final products of the planning process include:

  1. Green Infrastructure Map
  2. Green Infrastructure Report including implementation recommendations
  3. Powerpoint presentation to guide future green infrastructure projects

Please join us in the development of this exciting project that will benefit all of Kane County! Questions or comments? Email Brett Hanlon or Karen Miller at hanlonbrett@co.kane.il.us
