Green Infrastructure Plan Development
Join Us at the New Creek Bend Nature Center - June 7th 9:00 am to Noon
As part of the Kane County Planning Cooperative you are invited to participate in the development of the Kane County Green Infrastructure Plan. Because of Kane County's predisposition to ecologically sensitive land-use planning, including a strong interest in green infrastructure, the County was specifically chosen by Chicago Wilderness (CW) to receive technical assistance for the development of the Kane County Green Infrastructure Plan from CW's Sustainable Watershed Action Team (SWAT) program funded through a grant from Boeing.
Green infrastructure is defined as the interconnected network of natural areas and open spaces that:
- Conserves natural ecosystem functions
- Sustains clean air and water
- Provides trails and other benefits to people and wildlife
You are invited to review the Draft Green Infrastructure Map on Friday, June 7th from 9:00 am to noon at the brand new Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles Map. The Draft Green Infrastructure Map is a product of the Natural Resources Advisory Committee who was tasked with reviewing the Existing Resource Inventory Map of the County and recommending additional green infrastructure priorities and approaches.
The final products of the planning process include:
- Green Infrastructure Map
- Green Infrastructure Report including implementation recommendations
- Powerpoint presentation to guide future green infrastructure projects
Please join us in the development of this exciting project that will benefit all of Kane County! Questions or comments? Email Brett Hanlon or Karen Miller at hanlonbrett@co.kane.il.us
